HUSTLING THE CHURCH.
A TIME FOR ADVENTURE.
An application to the work of the Church of the Prime Minister's speech at Sheffield was. made at the Church Congress atļ Leicester recently by Archdeacon Gresford Jones, of Sheffield.
It was the closing session, and the Congress was discussing the equipment of the Church for
corporate life and witness. The Church, no less than the nation. said Archdeacon Jones, .com- mending Mr. Llord George's
speech to the delegates, needed larger production, close com. bination, and more evangelistic power.
The urgent matter for ourselves and mankind was that we should develop the wonderful Marconi Apparatus of the higher brain for better and more fruitful results than we had yet achieved.
"It is," he said, "so easy for many of es, so unworthy for others, to follow the bidding of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle ar eir Oliver Lodge. and to prostitute! this marvellous inner mechanism to less noble ends. We could all of us, I виррозе, ib varying degrees,, take contact with other spirits, wandering spirits as the apostle called them, just ss, in the region of our affections we can only tao easily indulge in wandering loves. But this is precisely what St. Paul tells us not to do."
Canon B. K. Cunningham, speaking on "The Faith Which Can Rembre Mountains," said the Church must get a move on. Faith did not stop at mere intellectual apprehension. In the days of the first Factory legislation they had an apa- thetic Church. Lives had been starved in the industrial world for five generations, and this was the time for the Church to undertake adventurous service.

selves.
England in some degree, or rather democracy. stood at the parting of the ways. Would it concentrate on merely material ambitions, or would it rise higher? They prayed it might take the larger view.
Let Churchmen go forth with a sense of the immeasurable re- source which the Church had at her disposal and nerve them- selves for new adventures of faith.
BRAVE LAND GIRLS.
DANGERS OF THE FARM.
In announcing the disbanding of the Women's Land Army the Wages Board Guzette quotes some examples of the way in which the Distinguished Service Bar has been won. It is given for acts of courage and unselfsh devotion in the service of others. and also for special skill in the course of their employment. The five examples are as follows:-
Peggy Fisher-A cowman who was about to chain up a bull, which was loose in the stall, was knocked down by the animal, which promptly proceed to gore him. Peggy Fisher rushed in, and, jumping the barrier, attacked the ball by kicking his nose. The bull backed, and the man was able to get out But for Fisher's pluck be would have been seriously injured and probably tilled.
Lily Harrison--When a new
recruit, and quite unused to horses, rescued a young pony that was being viciously attacked and bitten by a hunter. The fore- man did not think it was safe to
go near, but Harrison managed to separate the animals.
F. E. Henley.A frightened cow was stranded on a small piece of dry land in the middle of a swift and wide river unable to réach either bank on account of the soft mud surrounding her. Henley swam across the river, roped the cow in mid-stream, and drove in before her to the bank.
Jessie Bar.Saved a number of pigs from drowning. They had run on to a pond which was covered with a thin layer of ice, and they. all went into the water, Bar climbed a tree overhanging the pond and, supporting herself from one of the boughs, pulled the pigs out by their tails.
K. Botting. Rescued a fellow land girl who was being attacked by, a boar. At great personal risk she held the boar down with her pitchfork while the other girl escaped,:

Dryness" is a feature which has helped to give this drink the popularity it so well deserves.
