EX-GERMAN SHIPS. After their machinery had been tested and found to be in a satisfactory coedition, the ex- German steamers Memphis and Nikotris, lying at Talcahuang. were handed over to a British company on September 23. The tonnage of the vessels named is of about 7,000 tons.

A NEW TRADE ROUTE. The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company recently announced the auguration of a service of passenger and cargo steamers between. "Southampton and the new Republic of Poland, calling at Rotterdam, Bremen, Hamburg, and Copenhagen on the way to Danzig, and returning by the same route.

A DENIED REPORT. The recent report that the Indian Government has prohibit ed foreign ships from engaging in the costing trade of India is now entirely denied. This report caused a stir in shipping circles in Japan and the Nippon Yusen Kaisha is now informed by its Calcutta office that it is entirely without foundation.

A BIG BULLION SHIPMENT. More than six million dollars gold in bullion were landed in Shanghai on November 17, from the China Mail Steamship Com-: pany's China. The shipment consisted of 3,259 bars of silver; 99 boxes silver pesos and 43 bars of gold. The silver is valued at $4,190,458.90 and the gold at $1,969,011.93. The China also brought a large consignment of Buick motor ears.
