The Council of the London Chamber of Commerce has decided disappearance of the silver issue the Government prepare an issus of nickel coinage of denorinations under five shillings, sufficient to provide for the needs of the country; and also to endeavour to find substitutes for the use of silver, in India and other silver-using

In the House of Commons, replying to Mr. David Davies, Mr. Walter Long stated that the recommendations of Lord Jellicoe to recommend that in view of the price of silver and the possible would all need careful consideration, firstly by the Governments to which they were primarily addressed, and secondly by the Imperial Government and the Admiralty when they were consulted. There was no question at present of any immediate action being taken in consequence of the Report which would involve increased charges in Dependencies. on the Imperis! Exchequer.

Respecting the political situation in America it is authorita- tivaly stated that except for its technical deposit the ratification: of the Peace Treaty with Germany is an accomplished fact and there will not be any question of altering it. The Allies will con- sider whether any delay in giving effect to the League of Nations s necessary or whether they will proceed with the Treaty and the j League of Nations irrespective of the vote of the American Senate and pending the decision of the United States Government.
