a highly trained secret service. That is the nice name for it, buzi it is more eloquently conveyed by the simple word "spies." It has long since been revealed that เก the recent WAT Germany did herself a wonderful credit and also a valu-! able service by her almost perfect and elaborate system of secret service, for by means of it she was apprised beforehand of many of the moves of the Allies, both militarily and politically. But what is not more generally known? is the fact that in working! against German agents the British! organisation proved itself the better and scored many notable;

The mystery is intense through every scene and it is not until the very fall of the curtain that the characters become sorted out into their proper sphere, and one finds a very real bercine to applaud.'- Mr. Anthony Paul Kelly, who is ' the author of "Three Faces East" has certainly seized every oppor- No. IL, Peile: Street, Houstong tunity for dramatic effect.

Miss Vera Doria as Helene was the central character and played her part to perfection. Un- fortunately, she had the mis fortune to sprain her ankle in the first scene, but gamely went through the play. Several other characters stood out prominently, that taken by Mt. Frawley (Head of the English Intelli- gence Department) being chief among them: Mr. Vere Mathews. Mr. Herbert Farjeon (as Valdar,', the real German spy), Mr. Albert Morrison, Mr. Rodney Hilde- brand, Miss Leslie Virden, Mr. Henry Crostrand Mr.T: Gordon Blythe all helped to make the play a success, as did all the other members of the cast.

To-night "The Chorus Lady" is being given.

TO-MORROW'S PLAY.

A novel idea features the Fraw- ley Company's play "Forever After" which will be presented at the Theatre Royal to-morrow evening. The piece, written by Owen Davies. follows the "movie" plan of" flashing back" to incidents and scenes having a bearing upon the development of the story in most ingenious fashion, the whole fitting into ä harmoniously told and acted narrative.

The play

is 2 war play and one which stands out in bold relief among the swarm of such productions which bare come to the London and New York playhouses during

the past four years. It was pro-

HH|duced two seasons ago and is still running at the same New York theatre. The love story is one of singular appeal and the various roles give the Frawley Company opportunity for a great Ideal of clever acting. Miss Claribel Fontaine has the princi- pal feminine role.

ALCOHOL'S NEW FUTURE New York.--With the advent of probibition, alcohol is entering upon a new future, it was an- nounced

by tbe American Chemical Society. All possible; sources of commercial alcohol are being exploited and ten times as much as was used formerly will be needed within the near future. The nippa palm of the Philip- pines will yield 50,000,000 gallons a year, it is predicted.
