EVENING WRAPS OF VELVET AND FÜR.
At the left is a delectable coat suited to either day or evening wear and fashioned of silver, gray chiffon retre! heavily trimmed with opossum.
Next is a rich model of black velre! very elaborately combined with Japanese metal cloth in a mingling of tarnishes silver and gold and chinchilla. The coat itself is draped to one side in front, while the back falis straight, the chole mounted on a deep yoke of the metal rath that, square in front and continued into a deep point in back, rolls over at the top into a luxurious collar weighted with a deep band of chinchilla.
Its sleeves, too, are novel. They start, in to be typically Japanese, but narrac toward the wrists into bell shapes. Finally, there is à really unique feature. A long train, nearly a yard browl, falls from between the coat and its lining and is banded nearly a quarter-yard deep with chinchilla.
At the extreme right is a novel 'wrap of Kerami cloth cut in cape design and very richly bordered with dyed for fur.

WOMAN AND SPORT.
A NEW IDEAL OF WOMAN'S BEAUTY.
There are certain situations in life which are not conducive to woman's beauty if we regard beauty of face AS her chief physical charm. If you watch young women playing golf. hockey, tennis, and other games, while there is no question as to the benefit of exercise to the general health you could not help noting that the effect on the face is often disastrous.
Some
One sees many photographs in the newspapers of these unfavour- able situations, girls bathing with their mouths wide open, and all the muscles of the face drawn in- to an ugly state, girls training for face competition. the muscles being similarly drawn taut as a consequence of the earnestness with which they re- gard the exercise. The new form of dancing gives another blow to beauty, or at least to the beauty to which we have become accustomed, and war work has had a very general result of that kied.
Perhaps we shall get a new ideal of women's beauty as the sex approximates more closely to the other in facial expression owing to taking part in the same Strenuous work and sport, but during the transition period wo- men are bound to lose a portion of their attractiveness to men who retain the old ideal

Is it possible to do men's work and indulge in men's sport with- out developing annish pression of face? Not altogether, but the fault with women is that they put, too much soul and abandon into sport.
This is all to the good for health and for the production of strong muscles and sound neryes. Exercise not only accomplishes these things, but also it improves the digestion, aerates the blood and so makes the blood purer. The sense of well-being and joy of life are increased, so that even with some loss of beauty, exercise has ample compen sations.
