As a result of the conference, a resolu- tion was adopted to the effect that the Government should be requested to give encouragement to students who study the Sage's classics.
BIPLANE ON A GLACIER.
A splendid feat of Alpine acro- batic dying has been accomplish- on the Jungfrau Joch. 11.140 feet high. It was watched by a crowd of alpinists and skiers. A Swiss lieutenant named Ackermann, with. Major Isler as passenger, left Thun in a military biplane, with the object of landing on the Jungfrau Joch glacier, where a landing place had been prepared. Owing to the rarefaction of the air. the machine flew a hundred yards further. plouged through the snow, and came to a stand- still within a few yards of a deep crevasse. The machine was slightly damaged, but the oc- cupants were unhurt.

"PSYCHIC MAIDS."
The story of Hagar, according to the Rev. Walter Wynn, in his recently published book "The Bible and the After Life," is the story of the psychic maid." Do angels, he asks, still walk among us as men? He relates a a personal experience when ill end suffering from sieeplessness. A Blackpool lady, at whose board- iug estab ishment ho resided, suggested a cure which she was told by her "spirit doctor." Be gives the name and address of this lady, and says that she was the
psychic maid " through whom the angel" spoke to save his life. The cure, which was effective, consisted in nothing more mysterious than a cup of vinegar added to half a bucket of hot water. In the same way the author believes there is Biblical evidence in support of spiritualistic phenomena general- 17, and with respect to automatic writing cites what purports to be messages from his dead son about whom be has written another book. "Rupert Lives."

PHOSPHORESCENT TREES. A curious phenomenon Spaldwick is exciting the curios. its of residents in that part of Huntingdonshire. A short time ago some old elm trees were cut down by the roadside, and at night | the chips and the trunks where they had been cut glowed with a brilliant blue-green light
that passengers in the road, cyclists, and others
the stopped, thinking
trees were on fire. The trees con- tinued to glow on the following evening and subsequently, but with a gradually diminishing light. Timber merchants of long experience have no knowledge of trees glowing in this way. An analytical chemist, questioned hy a correspondent, says that the phenomenon is a known one, but extremely rare. There are, be says, certain fungoid growths which emit phosphorescent light, but only for a short time. These old trees, he surmises, may have developed phosphorescence at a certain stage of decay, but that the light should last over, such a long period is, he says, extra- ordinary..
