TheA.P.C.motorvessel Asiatica which was ashore 180 miles above Hankow, was refloated on Septem- ber 30, after discharging her cargo | in lighters, with the assistance of a tug and a rise of four feet in the river The water, which was 19ft. Fin. at Ishang on September 26, rose to 26ft. Sin, on the 30th.after which commenced to fall again.

American service; and the other six boats of 12,000 tons to the European run.

CANADIAN SHIPBUILDING. The Canadian Parliament has |võted an additional thirty million | Tjibodas

dollars gold to keep the shipyards | Tjikini in operation. The Minister of Tjimanoek Marine announced recently that | Tilliwong .... twenty-five new vessels would be completed this year, and that it was the intention to give orders to keep the yards busy for the balance of 1919, and probably well on into 1920. He added that there was a limit to the number of cargo vessels the Goverment could use in connection with the National Railway System.

CANTON SHIPPING.

The total number and tonnage of vessels which entered and cleared at Canton during the quarter ended in March 1919 was 2,027 vessels of 897,343 tona show- ing, when compared with the corresponding period of 1918, an increase of 79 vessels and 26,958 tons. Of the total 282 vessels of 315,595 tons were ocean steamers, showing an increase of 176 steamers and 170,803 tons, and 852 vessels of 537,598 tons were river steamers, showing a decrease of 144 steamers and 159,289 tons. The percentages of the total were:-72.7 per cent. British; 17.4 per cent. Chiness; 7.0 per cent. Japanese; 2.3 per cent, American and 0.6 per cent. Dutch and Norwegian; of the ocean steamers-63.5 per cent. were British; 18.4 per cent. Chinese:17.1 per cent. Japanese; 0.6 per cent. Norwegian and 0.4 per cent. Dutch; and of the | river steamers 83.8 percent were British and 16.2 per cent. Chinese.
