To my mind. English women are the most beautiful in the world. Especially true is this of the so-called upper classes," whose marvellous complexions, eyes, hair.bearing, and well- modulated voices are ädmired the world over.
French women are chic, piq- uant, seductive, but not beautiful. Many American women are beautiful until they open their mouths to speak, when their badly-modulated voices often detract from their beauty of face and figure.
Before the war, from the foreign point of view, Englishmen were the best dressed men in the world and English women the wors: dressed, unless palpably turned out by a French couturiere. To a large extent the war has re-i moved this stigma, so that they
are
now groping their way to- wards greater taste in dress. Pro- bably a certain type of wcnian will never cease complacently to! feel herself well dressed in a black silk frock worn with tàn shoes and stockings.
A LACK OF HUMOUR?
Much has been written of the recent extravagances of dress which is undress, and various reasons have been offered by various people for these tangenti al departures from correct sartori- al standards. Nowhere have i seen mentioned what is obviously the true reason. One writer says: These outrageous dresses are due to an over-developed sense of humour that makes us under- dress. Rather is it a lack of the sense of humour!
