Trade unionism is essentially conservative, and so are most trada, unionists, and they shall certainly not be called Bolshevik I. or revolutionaries by Lord Gainford a revolutionary. when he announces that in the event of certain decisions by Parliament, he and his fellow coal-owners will refuse to carry on their industry? Are the farmers who refrain from sending their milk into the market and prefer.(instead) to waste it, to be ! called revolutionaries? It is a very old principle of the English common law that a man may not do what he likes with his own, bul-always excepting Dore, that super-female of the species, who, however, confines her interference to ploughable l'and—there is nothing to compel him to do anything else with it, if he chooses to be inactive.

know, Lord Gainford, the milk producers, and the fishermen, if and when they conspire together, might be proceeded against under those laws even to-day, for they do not enjoy the exceptional im- manity of the trade uniontsts conferred in 1875 by the Tory Government of that time.
