ALLEGED ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE BY RUMANIAN, CROWN PRINCE. A San Francisco special to the Araki reports ELI attempted suicide on the part of the Ruman- Jan Crown Prince, whose depart. ure for Japan on a complimentary mission to the Japanese Court had been announced. According to this story, he was discovered just in time to prevent bim palling the trigger of his pistol. His life was saved, but in the struggle that ensued, he got injured in the leg. It is explained that the Prince fell in love with a girl neither of royal blood nor of wealthy connections, and the affair having gained much notoriety at Buka- rest, the Queen, who was greatly concerned attempted to separaté them, but none of her admonit-: ions had any effect. Recently a child was born to them. It was his father, King Ferdinand, who, equally anxious, thought that if the Prince had a tour of some months amidst the beauties of Japan, for which the purposed mission afforded opportunity, it might cure him of his attach- ment. It is rumoured, says the dispatch, that his grief at the coming separation from his - sweetheart drove the Prince to

attempt suicide.
