SHIPPING NEWS:

THESELLERMAN LINES,

The deferred shareholders of the Ellerman Lines receive for (1917) a dividend of 150 pár cant. The appropriation to reserve is reduced from £750,000 to £500,- 000. The directors state that the cost of new tonnage is so high that the losses the Company has, sustained cannot be made good with the compensation and insurance money received. The abnormal cost of building makes it impossible to expect a fair return on the present cost of new ships. In order to maintain the Company's services and to assist in the restoratio of the British Mercantile Marine to its former position. contracts have never- theless been entered into for the replacement of a large proportion of the steamers lost,
