FURTHER OPERATIONS.

A BRITISH MISSION.

It is officially announced that, owing to the development of the situation in the, Baltic States, it has been decided to despatch a British Mission to Esthonia, Latvia and. Lithuania, with branches at Revel, Líbau and Kovno, Colonel Tallents, who has been appointed British Commissioner, left London for Libau on the 25th instant.

Mr. Daniels has urged the Naval Committee of the House of Representatives to abandon the additional construc- tion of ten battleships and ten cruisers as was proposed several months ago by the Navy Department, in order to show, the confidence of the United States in the League of Nations, which it initiated Mr. Daniel said the conditions have changed since last December. The United States must either have the League of Nations which will end competitive construction or the biggest Navy in the world There was no middle couree. Mr. Daniels suggested an appropriation of 245,000,000 for uával aeroplane con- struction next year.

The Church of Scotland General Assembly after a heated and prolonged debate approved by an overwhelming majority the report of the Union Committee recommending that Presbyteries report before November 30 whether they approved or disapproved of the draft articles of the Union with the United Free Church and directing that a commia. sion of the Assembly be held in December to purpose authorising the Union Committee, in the event of a majority of Presbyteries approving the articles, to approach the Government as regards the necessary legislation.
