In connection with the proposed Japanese-American shipping combine. the shipowners in- terested assembled recently ut the Oriental Hotel. Kobe. where further consultations regarding the scheme were made.. Messrs. Asano, Uchida, Matsuk- ata, Kaneko, Yamashita, Katsuda, Kawachi. and the representatives of the Toyozaki Kobe Branch, the Shipping Departments of the Mitsui and Mitsubishi, the Taisho Kisen, the Hashimoto Zosen and the Nitta Kisen were present. Mr. Kaneko, after a con- gratulatory address, stated that he had no ships to offer, but he would be happy to join on a cash basis. Mr. Kaneko further stated that if his intention were accepted he would join with his contem- poraries and do his best for the success of the scheme. Mr. Uchida Kakichi explained the proposed
