Considerable time was derated by both the General and the Rice Sub-committee to the negotia. tions, through the Hongkong Chamber of Commerce, with the Rice Association of San Francis oo regarding standardisation of qualities and the general con. ditions of this trade. It thought advisable to issue a fur ther circular supplementing the correspondance published in our year book, so that members could come to this meeting with a full knowledge of the present position. I might still add that within the last few days two more telegrams ware received from San Francia- co, but as their contents are more unintelligible through or loss heavy mutilation, we have to await their repetition before anything further can be done. It looks, however, as if a satisfactory set- tlement will be reached are long.

In conclusion I should like to remark that our present roll of non Chinese membara is stronger than at any time during the ex istence of the Association, so that the temporary drop, owing to the exclusion in 1915 of enemy firms. has now been fully recovered. | which I think is very gratifying. As regards Chinese members, the year has seen a further dwindling down of their number. This is very much to be regretted, but the efforts which have been made, during the last years, to induce the native dealers to join the Association. have heen of no ayail and for the moment must leave it at that.
