REPORTING THE PEACE CONFERENCE.
SECRECT IN CERTAIN CASES ESSENTIAL.
Paris, January 17. M. Clemenceau, the Premier, in making a general statement to the Chamber of Deputies, said the differences of opinion with regard If everyone had been to the Peace Conference were most natural. unanimous there would be no need of such a meeting. The whole! object was to balance interests, when they were conflicting.
M. Clemenceau continued "Although the publicity of debates i in generally favoured, one point is that secrecy must be observed when one Government puts a proposal which is opposed by the head of another Government."
Concerning the League of Nations, M. Clemenceau added that it would be a delusion unless there was a general determination to make it a reality. One object of the French Government was to bring about a complete agreement among the civilised nations, to avoid a recurrence of the abominations of war.
The French Press generally remarks on the danger of allowing the Conference to be reported by hearsay, but the peace communique. must contain at least as much information at the war communiques. -Harus.
