Before any Election results are declared to-day the following is e position of the parties so far in the new Parliament-123 mem- bets have been returned, whom 82 are Coalitionists, comprising 52 Taipuists and 30 Liberals; and 40 non-Coalitionists, comprising, 12 Labourities, one Irish Nationalist, 26 Sinn Feiners and one In- dependent.
For the sake of reference we give the position of the parties at intion, namely 287 Unionists, 260 Liberals, 38 Labourites, Firma Nationalists, six Sinn Feiners and one Independent. Five! Members of the National Party are included among the 287 Unionists

The defeat of Mr. Henderson was a surprise also the big majority of the Irish Secretary (Mr. Shortt) over Labour at New- castle.
Mr. McKenna's defeat was not unexpected.
A cautious estimate says a Coalition majority over all parties
of 150 is likely to be exceeded.

A NEW OVERSEAS TRADE DEPARTMENT.

Details are published of the organisation of the new Overseas Trade Department, which now controls the Con sular services and Trade Commissioners. The Commercial Attachez Department is divided into two sections, namely the Overseas Division and the United Kingdom Division. The Overseas Division is sub-divided geographically and deals with information received, while the United Kingdom Division ponsiders reports from abroad from the point of view of industries in this country and is in touch with the com mercial community. No provision is yet' made for dealing with problems of trade in the Central Empires, but it is probable that a new section will be reated for this purpose. The Trade Commissioners have been increased from four to twelve and are assigned to: "Canada and Newfoundland, three Australia, two; New Zealand, one; South Africa, two; India and Ceylon, one; Straits Settlements, one; British West Indies, one; Headquarters, one.
