We have taken Dompierre and Monceau St. Waast and reached or passed the line of the Avesnes Bavai road between the Moncean St. Waast railway and southward of Bavai and repulsed a counter- attack south-eastward of Bayai with heavy enemy loss, advancing our line. The bridge across the Meuse into the remainder of Sedan, which is flled with the retreating hemy, was destroyed. The valley was flooded and the railroad bridges were also destroyed. The enemy's principal lateral line. of communication between Metz, northern France and Bel- gium is no longer open to him. All French territory west- ward of the Meuse within the American zone has been cleared of the enemy by our gallant dashing advance. Since Nor. we have advanced forty.kilometres and broken down all resistance. We have treed seven hundred kilometres of soil and liberated 2,000 civilians, who are joyfully hailing us as their deliverers. We hate prisonered nearly 8,000, including an unusually large proportion officers and great booty.

A Chinese Fined. Fifty Dollars,

Chan Kamelam was summoned at the Police Court this morning, before Mr. J. B. Wood, with incroaching on Crown Land and obstructing Fublic officer in the execution of his duty at Shem. phin-po, Mr. J. Mackay, Land Bailiff, prosecuted.

The facts were that the defand. ant was previously owner of Lot 2309, but by mutual agreement between the Government and the owner the Government took over, the land and gave him a certain time to pull down a house. The defendant partly did so with the consequence that a lot of timber remained on Crown Land. In relation to the other charge, Mr. Mackay had gone to Sham Shig po several times but it was rather hard to get st the defendant. E.) (Mr. Mackay) wanted to ask the defendant to remove the timber quickly, and not being able to see him, he engaged several coolies to remove the timber. Defendant heard of this and rushed to the sosne and esid "It is my timber"? and started using abusive lan- guage. Mr. Mackay, not wishing to cause a breach of the pesce, SE 6 crowd was gathered rönnd by this time, asked the defendant to go to the Police Station and" he did ea. By this messe Mr Mackay got his name and issued a sum- mone against him.

Defendant pleaded guilty to both obarges and his Worship fined him $25 on each charge,
