officers are entitled to a gratuity equivalent to 14 days' pay for the first year of service and 62 days pay for each subsequent year's cervice: whether a similar provi-ion has been made in the case of the officers of the Naval Reserve Force; and if not, whether he will now take the matter into bis favourable ccneideration? Dr. Macnamara replied that he was afraid he matter could not carry the further at this point than to say that the subject was' and had been for some time under dis- cassion between the departments concerned.
Manila Harbour Silting. The return of the dredger, which has been used exclusively by the Manila Railroad Co. for some months rast, will enable dredging operations to be pro- ceeded with inside the break- water so that larger weasels making the port can load without being compelled to seek desper waters outside. It is learned in Manila shipping circles that barcour has been silting up rapidly this year and that the dredgers have failed to keep open channels so that ships with 30 feet draft cannct navigste inside the break water. Captains have, in several instances, antified their owners cf these conditions and consequently the Manila trade at present has not a very good outlook..
Another Ocean Leviathan, Meers Card & Co., Greenock, have completed what is claimed to be the largest steamer ever dry docked on the Clyde. She ja the Naldera, of the Peninsular and Oriental Company. Her dimensions are 605 ft. by 67-ft, by 41-ft and her lines have the grace and fineness one has come to expect in a P. & O. liner of the premier class. Not being the. type of vessel which the Allies most needed, her construction. was delayed in order that tonnage of other kinds might be proceeded with. Late last winter, however, it was decided to transtorm her into a cargo liner. The Naldera has a speed of 19 knots, and her cargo carrying capacity is 14, 00 tons. Her holds are insulated for the carriaze of meat, the (Projected Sailings from Hongkong. Subject to Alteration) space available for this purpose
