Lack of Bread in Austria. London, August 8.-There is widespread discontent in the large Austrian towns on account of a recent rim of 118 per cent. in the price of bread, socording to an Exchansa Telegraph diepatch from Zurich to-day. Teachers Over 45 Exempted.

A circular has been issued to robools by the Ministry of Nation al Survios modifying the arrange ments with regard to the military service of teachers and education al officials. The protection bitherto afforded them continúes in respect of sil Grade III. men and of Grade II, men who were 38 or over on Jan. 1, 1918, and it is extanded to all men of what- ever Grade who were 45 or QYAR în that date. All men liable to military service who are not yet graded (exospt men who since April 5, 1917, have been certified as totally and permanently unfit for any form of military service,.. are now liable to be summoned for medical examinston and grad- ing: All non-protected men, Le., all Grade I men who were under |36 on Jan. 1, 1918, will after being graded be called to the colours, except individual men re- commended by the Board to the Director-General of National Seri vice for retention.
