Shot While Bathing,

A curious case of the death of an cfficer was revealed at an irquest recently, Second Lient John Prince, of the Queen's (Westminster) R'fee, was swim ming with two other officers in a prohibited area in East Kent, some 60 yards from targets set ap for seroplene practice. Aerial Malls in Japan - Mr. Patterson, an American aviator, arrived at Yokobama on August 5, and the following day visited the serodrome at Shibsure, He commenced setting-up the machine be has brought over, with which he will undertake, to carry mails between Tokyo and Desks after the 15th instant. This event is being arranged ander the auspices of the Society for the Study of Aerial Mail Service, of which General Nagaoke, Vice-President of the Imperial Aviation Society, is President. He will complete the jround journey in one day.

Great Fire In Kaba During the night of August 8, it was discovered that the cfices of Meesre. Sozaki and Co., on the side of the old Mikado Hotel, at the west end of Sakaze-machi, were on fire. The fames spread rapidly and it was not long be fore the whole building was involved. The building and its contents burnt with grest ferce- ness, and the scène was a lurid and impressive one. By half- peat ten the whole building had collapsed, but the flames raged more fiercely than ever, Fort- unately there was little wind, but even as it was adjscent buildings were in considerable danger, and at 11 o'clock the big block to the south was well light. Live embers were dropping all about, and for balf a mile round people were taking precautions against fire. Immense crowds gathered, and not only filed the wide road, but were perched on every point of vantage, including the roof of the Mitsubishi building to the north. Perhaps the best view was from the site of the old post office, just opposite, which was burnt out a few months ago.
