DO YOU REALISE
WHAT IT MEANS
HEN we announce that a photo-
play is by members of the Come-
W
die Francaise ? It means that the play in
ام
question has been given the most perfect
interpretation that modern dramatic art admits of; that the smallest and most
insignificant part is as artistically render-
ed as that of the Star-and there is a
reason for this.
THE Comedie Francaise, which is
T
also known as "La Masion de
Moliere," dates back to the palmy
days of Louis Quatorze when it saw the
production of all the great -Moliere Comedies. If the Globe of Shakespeare and Ben Jonson had existed to the
present day and was still the most
famous of English play-houses one
might compare it ta the Comedie
Francaise. It is in a word, the oldest
theatre in the world, with the longest traditions. To be permitted to perform
upon its stage an artist must be elected
to membership by the assembled existing
associates and members after a public
exhibition before the most
critical
audience in the world. It is the French
actor's highest ambition to receive from
his peers this recognition of his histrionic
JJ
powers. It is the one existing modern
institution in which merit is the only
passport.
..
HEN we say, then, that we are
presenting a play by members;
WH
of the Comedie Francaise, we mean that
we are inviting you to a dramatic feast that cannot be equalled elsewhere; you' will agree that this is so when you
have seen
"INSTINCT"
AT THE
VICTORIA THEATRE,
