The Chemical Trade.
A scheme has been formulated. for the establishment of a joint industrial conneil for the chemical trade on the lines of the recom mendations of the Whitley Be- port. The Ministry of Recop- struction, which is taking on active interest in the project, has invited the Awociation of British Chemical Manufacturers to sp point representativen to aarve on an "interim" industrial connoil. The association se such does not desi with ordinary labour, and wagen questions, but is interested in broad questions of principle and in such matters as the resettlement of labour after the war. The invitation to take part in the new scheme was con sidered at a mesting of the -Executive Committee of the aser ciation yesterday, and it was decided to call the attention of) the Department to certain objections fo the scheme as sub- mitted to them. It is understcod that for the purposes of the cobeme the "heavy" chemical industry (which produces alkalis, &c, and is the most extensive branch of
