After reading the shore, may I ask the Hon. Member if the spirit of patriotism which animated the young men of Pure European Descent to nek the Chamber of Commerce and the latter to ask the Government for conscription was altogether unselfish?

Perhaps I may supply them with the answer. The parts of, the Hon. Member's letter quoted above show that both the young patriotio pasado fighters and the Committee-men wanted conscrip tign for British wabjects of non- pure European descent and not for themselves, as they imagined they were well protected by bielding ander the "paramcant British interests."

In other words, they wanted a Conscription Bill which will give them exemption. Unfortunately for the Hon. Member and his Batallites, the War Office and the Colonial Office did not view the subject with them, eye to eye.
