G Walford, repte zentative of Mesere. – Leopold Walford (London), Ltd, through Mr Hirata, of the Osaka bár,“ has filed a suit in the Fukuoka Chiho Saibanaho against Mr. Tochigi Junsaku," proprietor of the Tochigi Shipyard, of Wakan matsu claiming recovery of damases amounting to Y1,185,-- 1000. In the petition it is stated that about April or May of last year the London

entrusted to Messrs. Dodwell & Co., Kobe, the basin, ess of buying a Japanese steamer on its behalf. In May of last Fear Messra Dodwell & Co. made a contract with the Tochigi Shipyard through the Warsi Shokai, of Shimonoseki, to buy for Y.710.000 the Daitoku Haru, 1,700 tons, then under con- struction at the shipyard. The steamer was to have beon de- |livered in July, but in view of the advance that later oocüfred ia the price of tonnage the ship- yard failed to fulfil the contract. According to the market value, the vessel is worth Y 850 per ton, or Y.1,445,000, as compared with the contract price of Y.710,000,
