Bogus Officer Sentenced. Robert

Stevenson, falsely describing himself as an officer, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment at Derby recently for obtaining an officer's kit and #11 from local tradesmen by means of a worthless cheque. The chief witness was David Steel, a well known Hotspur foot- baller, now in the Naval Air Service, from whom the cheque was stolen while prisoner was staying at his licensed house at Tottenham. He then styled himself Lient, Tollington, and wore the Victoria Cross and -French and Russian decorations. "Previous convictions were proved.

A Japanese Girl's Ambition, A girl named Imazumi Tateo, ged 20, living at Kawajiri murs, Kamogan, Birebims prefecture, says the Japan Chronicle, has sp- plied to the authorities for permia- sion to undergo the examination necessary for obtaining a naviga- tor'a licence. Her father is. the owner and captain of a coal tran- sport, on which she has been assist- ing bim.from childhood, and it is enid that abë now knows the ssafar- ing trade even better than her -father. Both have accordingly decided that she should become a -Captain, and have now applied to the authorities for the necessary permission. This is the first application to come from a woman but the authorities have decided to accept the appliostion, since the regulations simply provide that applicants should be 20 years or upwards of age, making ro distinotion of sax. If she pasER the examination, she will be the first woman navigator in Japan, Japanese Currency.
