A provisional contract has, sccording the span. Chronicle, been signed for the sale of the Asama-mara, 6,730 tons, of the Towa Kisen Kaisha, Kobe, to the French Government at £64 per ton for delivery in March or April. The shipowner has applied to the Government for the necessary permission. The steamer has been under charter by the French Govern ment for one year, and itir expected that the permission will soon be given.

Shipbuilding at Queenstown. It is stated on reliable authority that Messrs. Furness. Withy, and Co. who have purchased Bushbrooke Dock premisem rat Queenstown, have decided on developments that will involve large outlay. The local authority at Queenstown has promised to eroot several hundred up-to date: houses for the additional work men to be employed at the docks.
