No Free Seas for Pirates.
Mr. J. I. Macpherson; Under- Secretary for War, speaking at the St. Andrew-day - Festival, luush of the Royal / Scottính Corporation, eaid:-"Sofar.as we in this country are concerned. there can be no discussion on the question of the freedom of the seas and the statement was greeted with loud and prolonged cheers Freedom of the sUAS, iadeed!" he continued. "Freedom to whom? Freedom, to pirates and worse. Our sailors have sailed the seas from time-im- memorial with "clean hands. Instead of freedom of the seas to pirates and worse there must be a clearing from the seas of that-- barbarous, treacherous foe ho has polluted the ocean with-hi foul crimes. The might, of Britain has been secured by the vigilance of our sailors. It is not for ús to enter into a disquision. whether we shall have freedom {of the seas;-because what' we have dona with all our might to maintain our superiority on the oceans of the world we have done, not in the interests of ourselves, but in the interest of every other country that loves.

The Missing Hitachi Maru...... The Nippon Yusen Kaisha: announces (says the Kobe Herald" of January 18) with reference to the missing-Hitachi Maru that the Chikuzen Maru, under the command of Capt. Information, obtained.
