North England Trade,

The output returns of iron and steel exports from Middlesbrough during September show that 45,386 tons of pig iron, 1,458 tons rf manufactured iron and 6,693 tons of steal "were shipped, as compared with 39,093 tons of pig iron- and 24,380 tons of manu. factured iron and steel during August, a decrease of 13,599 tons of pig iron and of 17,687 tons of the manufactured product, During the two months ended August 31st the sales of manu- tastured iron by the firms associated with the Board of Conciliation and Arbitration for the Manufactured Iron and Steel Trade of the North of England amonuted to 7,853 tons, 7 cwts, 11 lbs., at an average net price of £13 13 4.43d per ton as compared with 8,685 tona, 15 owis, 1 qr, 2lbs,, at an average, || price of £13 103 9.8 d per ton, sold during the previous two months. In acc irdance with the sliding scale, puddling wages have been advanced by 3d per ton, and those of other forge and mill workers by 214d per cent, as from October 1st.

Small Notes in America.

The "Commercial & Fidencial Chronicle," New York, says:-- President Wilson on October 5 signed the Senate bill designed to relieve the scarcity of one and two-dollar bills which now'existe în many sections of the country. Under the new law every national · bank will have the right to issue up to $25,000 of its circulation in one and two-dollar bills. The new law also repeals the Act of March 4, 1900, under which national banks have been prevented from issuing more than one third in amount of its circulating notes of the denomination of five dollars. In announcing the signing of the new law by the President, the Comptroller of the Currency issued the following statement: "The President has approved, a bill just passed by Congress which, it is believed, should materially assist in relieving the
