Approach to the Yang River.
Notice is given that a absol has been found to the south-eastward of Tayusan in the approach to i the Yung River. A least depth of 17 feet was obtained in a pasition from which Nemasis Root Beacon bears N. 341° W., distant 1.75 cables. Other depths... obtained showed that the channel in this vicinity had shaoled by S to é feet froin' those shown on British Admiralty Chart No. 1592. All bearings given are magnetic, and depths are, those of low water of spring tides. Chile and Shipbuilding Bounties,
The Acting British Consul at Santiago (Mr. T. Sargent) writes that there has been prevalent for some time past in Chile a desire to foster a national shipbuilding industry. According to an extract from the "South Pacific Mail" (Valparaiso), the Chilian Senate has sept to the Chamber of Deputies for approval a Bill providing for bounties for ship- building and the construction of marine machinery. Under the proposed measure, builders of vessele destined for the national mercantile marine' or to be sold abroad, which measure more than 100 tons register, are to receive the following grants par register top:-) Vessels with iron or steel bulls: (a) Mechanically propelled vessel, 40 pesos. (gold); (b) auxiliary sailing vessels, 30 pesos; and (c) sailing vessels, 20 pesos; and (2) vessels with wooden hulls: (a) mechanically propelled or auxiliary sailing vessels, 15 pesos; and (b) sailing vessels. 10 pesos. Floating docks of iron or steel, which are constructed in the country for service in national or foreign ports, are to receive a grant of 30. pesos for each ton of lifting capacity. This grant is to be increased to 40 pesos par ton for the first two docks constructed: in the country or abroad, capable of lifting 8,000 tons each. and which are installed in Chile after the Bill becomes law. Machinery. constructed in the country for docks installed in Chilian or foreign ports are to have a right to grants Vessels, docks, and their machinery constructed for public service are not to be entitled to grants. The grants for the construction of vessela and machinery are to be for a term of fifteen years from the date of the promulgation of the projet as law in the "Diario Official," and the grants for the construction. of docks for a term of ten years.
