A Gigantic Liner.

Frers despatches from New York sanounce the arrival at an Atlantic port in the United States of the Pritish steamship Justicia, a new vessel of 32.234 tone, rank- ing among the greatest ships of the world, says the "Montreal Gazette." Behind the screen of secrecy which the carsorship | maintains, notable work for the merchant as well as the war marine is evidently being done in the United Kingdom. Practically of the same size as the Mauret- ania, and its ill-fated sister craft, the Lusitania, the Justicia is exceeded in size by the Olympic, which is credited with 45,324 tons mer eurement, and which ́ ́- is understood to be engaved in naval work. There is also of greater

the size than Justicia, the Imperator, said "to measure 71000 tone, but which is of no present value to its owners, being confined to its home ports by the British blockade of the Germin chest. While most of the trans- port work of the war falls upon vessels of mod rate size, there is a place for the leviathans which nothing else can fill. Five thous- and men and their military belongines have been. carried Across the ocean in one vessel at a minimum of expense both for transport and protection; and before the close of hostilities many more such precious cargoes may be moved in like minner. The Justicia was one of eleven large steamships to arrive from

ia two days, which is also a fact of meaning. Taken in conjunction with other statements relating to shipping bound to or from the United Kingdom it suggests that the co-operation of the builders and the protecting squadrons is removing the risks that the enemy's undersea blockade would have a deciding influence in his favour in shaping the fortunes of the war.
