U. S. Fixes Prices for Fuel.

Control by the Government of retail prices of coal and coke were pat into effect throughout the United States on October 1. Finel ordern and directions for each control were issued by the Fuel Administrator Mr. Garfeld the previous day. They are drastic and explicit and will at least prevent | the price from going higher than it was two months ago. All retail dealers in coal and coke have their instructions under the ordera issued by Mr. Garfield to limit the prices of thess fasle on a profit making basis. No attempt in made by the government to establish a uniform price for all communities zince conditions and costs differ widely. Instead the dealers are to limit their groes margins to those of the average of the year 1915 with thirty per cent. added bat it is farther provided that in no case shall the price be higher than the average prices of these fuels during the month of Joly last. The order farther declares that all attempts ́to disregard or evade the law
