Kaiser Wilson": Banners. Washington police took a band ~on. August 18 in destroying ban nets of anffragists in front of the White House gater. A police inspector and a-police captain tore two banners, addressed to Kaiser Wilson," from their poles, and informed the women they would not permit banners of this kind to be exhibited. About fifty policemen were elationed at in- tervals in front of the White House and on the street in front of the Woman's Party head- quariere. They kept the crowde moring and prevented automo- biles from stopping. Before the police guard arrived, however, four bancers had been torn from the bands of the women as they were leaving headquarters for the White House gates.

Smoke Boxes.

The

The smoke boxes are for throwing overboard and once used can not be recovered. The Navy Department is prepat- ing to issue smoke boxes to all. vessels carrying armed gaurde. and has announced as its poliag that smoke-producing apparatus for the sea of merchants vessels should be available for every reseel desiring to parolase it. The Department of Commerce regards the matter as great im- portance for the protection of merchant verola.
