SETTLEMENT OF DISCHARGED SOLDIERS,
London, August 11.
The report of the Committee on the Settlement of ex-Service Men in the Empire says that tens of thousands can be accommodated ander existing scheme. Tas report urges preference to married men, and the facilitation of exigration of women relatives and fiances. It declares hst female emigration is essential for the foundation of effective settlement. THE LABOUR PARTY'S CRISIS.
Loadoo, August 1L
The Labour Conference adj›urned to Aurust 2ist to consider the draft of the peace settlement, which was circulated throughout the labour movement.
It is anderstood that the Sab-Committee responsible for the docament consisted of Mesars. Henderson, Wardle, Roberta Masdroald, Jowett and Sidary Webb.
Yesterday's decision of the conference is described as a triumph for Mr. Henderson, who never counted on such a majority. His fes: in inducing labour to reveres its previous decision is most remark. able, as most of the Labour Ministers were opposed to bie view.
·The impression prevailed among the delegates that the Government wou'd refuse to issue passporta.
Sir. Theme, M. P., interviewed, stated that the threat of the Esmen's Union not to convey the Dalegates to Stockholm hsd created an intolerable position, which might resalt in the railway- men refusing to carry Mr. Havelock Wilson, Captain Tapper, and the capitalists behind them,
Loadon, August 11.
Yesterday's labour vote does not seem to bring the Stockholm Conference any nearer owing to the conflicting vine of the British; Besian and Franco-Belgian Socialista reparding ife statas.
The newspaper comments chicfly deal with Mr. Henderson's ani ibe Cabinet's position.
A section of the Press, which for the last week has been forecast- ing against the Stockholm vote, to-day publishes a statement that Mr. Henderson bað not disclosed to the Conf-rence or the Labour Ministers that information had just reached him that the present Brian Government was indifferent to the Stockholm Conference, and that consequently Mr. Benderson must resign.
London, August 11.
The Times say that the resignation of Mr. Henderson is to be
expected to-day.
The Morning Peat declares that if Mr. Henderson remaina ia the Cabinet important Unionist members of the Cabinet will resign, and these will be supported by many Liberals.
On the other hand, the Daily News says it was the reactionary Preas campaign which largely decided Labour to go to Stockholm."
Tae Daily Chronicle enge that the vote may epur to fresh cfforia the aggressive Unionists desirous of oasting Mr. Henderson from the Cabinet, but it has been proved that the forces of Labour will alpport him,
