Lord Rosebery's New Honour.

The Fukuoka Tragedy. In the Nagsaski Court of Appeal on June 29th the trial took place of Tanaka Tokaishi, who was sentenced to death on the charge of having mordered Mrs. Irma Sardern at Fukuoka, The public Procurator asked the Court to reject the appeal, while -counsel for the defence asked for the clemency of the Court and s sentence of imprisonment for life. „Judgement was to be given on

Death of Mr. Stuart A. Caird,

The death occurred recently of Mr. Stuart A. Caird, abipowner of Glasgow, a member of a well. known family of six brothers, of whom he was the last survivor. One was Principal John Caird, of Glasgow University, and another Dr. Edward Caird, Master of Ballic. For many years Mr. Start Caird carried on business with his brother, Mr. Colin Caird, and he was well kuowafin ebipp.. ing circles...

First Labour K.C.B. Among the recent promotions in the Order of the Bath occurs the name of Mr. David James Shackleton, C.B., Peïminent Secretary to the Ministry of Laboor. He now becomes E.C.B. Sir David was born in 1863, and was a cotton operative until be was 29. He was returned se Labour member for the Clitheroe Division of Lanosshire in 1902, and was elected chairman of the National Labour party in 1905. Five years later he became Senior Labour Adviser to the Home Office, and in 1912 was appointed an Insurance Commissioner. The 0.B. was bestowed upon him last
