We have another dall week to report in our local market. Business has been very restricted all the week, and the new political situ. ation which has arisen in Chins dosa not tend to improve the position. Exchange, which has reached a further high record, is also an adverse factor in the market. Quotations however for speculative stooks have kept fairly steady and there is no great inclination on the, and indicating the approximsie part of holders to sell at present prices, which, in most cases, must be considered cheap. Holders of investment stocks are inclined to iske advantage of the high exchange and invest in sterling securition, and the investment market in Exing accordingly.
The Shanghai market which at the core last week showed distinct signs of improvement has had another setback, the coup d'etat in the North having a demoralining effect on all stocks, sad there is nothing doing,
The Singapore market is slightly better, and plantation rubber comes through at 2/71, a rise of lyd on last week, market firmer. BANKS.-High szobanga is szain the cause of Hongkong and Shangbai Banks being offered at the reduced rate of $680. MARINE & FIRE INSURANCES.-With the exoption of a ale of Hongkong Fires st $825, we have no business to report in this section. Captons Biz obisinable at 8240, and Unions at $855. China Fizes are mill wanted at $143, and Yangt sas could be placed si Shanghai #190 (Exch. 73). North China at Tie, 140 and Hongkong Fires at $225 are both nominal.
EHIPPING Douglases have kept at $85 all the week, with no basinese reported.
