Detained.
A number of missionaries in England are now undergoing the singular experience of not being able to return to their work: abroad, owing to the new Govern- ment regulations, which prevent any one not sent out of the country by the Government from obtain- ing a persport, saya s contempor ary. This difficulty, added to that of inability to get the necessary number of misionarice, is upset ting plans which have been drawn up by the Seciation COB* cerned, and a number of the missionaries will offer themselves for national æervion. Steps are being taken to induce the Gor- einment to relax the regulations, "bat this is not likely to happen, except in cases where very con vincing reason can be shown for making exceptions.
Devotion to the Throne. The Maharjan of Bikunir, speaking at Manchester after re- ceiving the freedom of the city, made the following referenos lo Mr H. G.
