According to Teknisk Uke-. blad" (the Norwegian weakly technical journál): 46 steamers, of 37,478 tons gross register, were completed and underconstruction at the end of December, 1916; by Norwegian shipbuilding yards. The Aktieselskapet Fredriksstads Mecanic Works, with which is incorporated Soerlandets Ship- building Yard and Akers Mecanic Works, Christi uis, are leading with 8 and 4steamers respectively of 13,551 and 4,457 tous STOSS register.

High dividends, in spite of war accidents, war difficulties, ard war taxation, are the constant feature of the annual reports of neutral steamshipcon panies, and the Van Nieyelt, Goudriaan and Company'ss atement for last year is certainly no excep io, as for the second yearin.succession it announces a distribution of 100 per cent, to the lucky sharehold- ers, On January 25th last year, the report says, the steamer. Thuban struck a mine on the English coast, and a similar acci- dent befell the steamer Dubhe on April 26th. The latter was; how- ever, not sunt. To the company's feet, which curing 19 5 had un- dergne a conside: able ex ension, the steamer A'pherd' was added jon January 2.st, and thu* throughout the year the company had it its disposal a fleet of fourteen vessels with a total of 73.000 tons, as compared with 50, 00 tons in the previous year. The two steamers of 6.500 tons eich, which were ordered in November. 1915, for delivery at the end of last year, had not been completed at the time of com- piling the report. -
Year's Panama Canal Traffic-
An official report of the traffic [th cugh the Panama Canal dur- ing last year states that the aggregate net tornage of the ships entering the port of ristobal was 4,819,515 cet tons. The number of ships was 1,592.. For Balboa the number of ships. entering was 1,185, and their aggre ate nët tonnage was 2,743,- 774. The total for both ports was 2,777 sh ps, 7,566,299 net tone.
