Newchwaag Trade.
The recent requisition by the British Government, of British coasting steamers. in China has caused a tonnage famine in the export trade of Newchwang with South China ports, says an Exchange: Messrs. I Miyazaki & Co., a local Japanese shipping firm. have availed themselves of the opportunity and have decided to launch a steamer service between Newchwang and Amoy, having already chartered three Japaness cargo-boats "Eiko "Daikukveab," "Ikutama" for
that purpose. Beans and cake which have hitherto been shipped chiefly by British vessels to South China ports are expected to be conveyed hereafter almost exclusively by the above Ja-
panese.

A contract has been signed for the sale to a Hokkaido firm of the Tensho Maru, 5;100 tons, "owned by Mr. Koku Koichiro, for. Y.2,350,000, to be delivered in January next. This steamer was in the possession of Mr. Uchida, of Kobe, in August 1915, when he sold her to
the Noruchi Shokai for Y.3,500,000. The Noguchi Shokaj operated her for a year and a half, and then sold her for Y.1,950,00 to Mr. Kokama, who has now sold her for Y.2,330,000—an advance of Y.85,00 in o'ghteen months. The latest price works out et Y.456 per ton. This is quite a high figure and has attracted attentin in shipping circles.
