The Bengal Company. Simla, 18th April:-Thespecial Bengal Company has now reach- ed a strength soffirent to justify an attempt being made to expand it into a Battalion; and orders to this effect will, it is understood, shortly be issued. To complete the Battalion, a total of 1,700 men will be necessary; and of theas foms 400 have been recruit- ed up to date. The enlistment

Rubber and Tia.-Export Regulations.

With reference to the prcolama. tion prohibiting the export of rabber sad tin to all countries except the United Kingdom and the F. M.S, it is notified in & F.M. 8. Government Gamite extra- . ordinary that permits to export rubber and tin to Iadis, Ceylon,: Hongkong or any British Protect- ed State in Borneo or in the Malay Penninsuls for local con- sumption may be obtained on application to the Colonial

Secretary, Singapore, and that the export of rubber and tia to all other destinations will only be permitted if authorised by the Rabber Export Committee.

800 Stranded Americans. More than 800 Americans are stranded in Scandinavian coun- tries, unable to get home, and are beginning to feel want through eboriage of food, according to three Americans who arrived in New York recently as members of the crew of an American tank steamship from Copenhagen. Bernhardt Still Improving. New York, April 19-m2. Sarah Bernhardt was reported slightly improved at Monti Siasi Hospital to day--the second since her operation. Her physicians, Dra. Felix Marot, Emanuel Barach, Leo Baetger, and Eman. uel Libman, beld an early god- sallation, and issued the following bulletin :-"There is a slight improvement in Yms. Bernhardt's condition.
