Kawasaki Mercantile Mariae School.

It is reported that a lot of land. about 7,000 tsubo, has been bought at Fukaye, between Sumiyoshi and Ashiya, for Mr. Kwasaki's Mercantile Marine School The construction of the school: buildings will be commenced in June, under the supervisi n of Dr. Kawasi Kozo, and it is hoped the work will be completed by April, next year. The buildings are estimated to cost Y3JU,000.

Japan's Trawlers.

Before the outbreak of the war, the total number of trawlers in Japan exceeded 159, but most of the trawlers "have been sold to France and other belligerent countries, where they are used for mine sweeping. In the early part of this year the number was reduced to 29 only, and last month six more, were sold to France, and Italy at a cost of Y.200,000 each. At present, there remain only twenty-three boats. Owing to the diminution in the number of trawlers, the nwaers of the boats are now obtaining unusual profits on account of abuedant catches of fish,

The N. Y. K. and Liverpool. The Nippon Yusen Kaisha's new Liverpool service will be opened with the .5. K stori Macu leaving Kobe on May 28. Though the calls in Britain of the N.Y.K. steamers have been confined to London, Middlesboroub, and other ports on the east coast, Japan's trade with the western ports has been very considerable. The serv.ce between the west coast and the Far East, however, has been exclusively moncpoli ed by the Blue Funnel Line, admitt- ing of no encroachment from outside, but the war has now brought about a complete change in the situation. As the result of the Government control of the mercantile marine.

large | proportion of the Blue Funnel liners have been requisitioned by the Government, with a consequent congestion of ship- ments on the west coast of Britain and the British Govern- ment has arproached the Ja- panese Government with B
