Silly Rumours, Westminster, March 30.-Mr. W. Thorne asked Mr. Bonar Law whether there was any foundation for the rumours that an invasion had taken place in Scotland and * Lowestoft, The Leader of the House explained that he had beard a great many rumours of that kind, but he had not been able to find that there was any foundation for any of them. A far as he could gather, if it were Fossible to state any sources of origin for these rumours, they were due to the fact that the Home Defence Forces were told to be ready for an emergency. This often-Lappened, he added reassuringly, but apparently in this case it had orested unutual commotion.

The Price of Tea. Captain Bathurst, in the Houser of Commons recently, said the quantity of tea in bond on Mar. L 1917, was 93,624,000 lb. The average price realised by im porters st ten auctions during the four weeks ended Mar. 3 was, for Indian tea, Is. 8d. to le. 4d, a lb. and for Ceylon tea, 18. 313. to 18. 518. alb. The amount of tes. withdrawn from bond during the year ended Feb. 28, 1917, was 383,372,6471b. The importa tion of China and other foreign teas was prohibited with the object of enconomising tonnage. As had slready been announced, the arrangement for a. lower selling price of tes would come into foros. on May L. It was necessary to allow . an interval in which dealere might. clear their present stocks bought at higher prices. The Food Con- troller stood for the interests of the consumer, and allowed no trada considerations to prevail uzfairly or unduly against such interests.
