SHIPPING NEWS.
The New Construction Rules,
The revised rules for the con- struction and olamifiostion of ships have just been issued by the British Corporation. They are considerably diferent from the old cues, and amply bear oût the statement made by the com- mittee of the Society that the roles will be more readily adapt able to the widely "verying conditions of modern design, and that the methods will secare so ournay in the adjustment of details. It has often been thought that the roles of registration societies had to be complied with exactly as they were laid down, wheresa the societies were always ready in consider. modifications provided equivalent strength was given. If the frame spacing ie to be dirent from that kid down în the rules a constant is introduced for use with a table giving the scantirugs of the frames. This ̈ constant depends on the spacing of the frames and two height in the ship, specifying the distance between the top of the for bracket and the bottom of the lowest- beam knee, together with distance from the top of the frame bracket to the load lice. Another constant is also to be used with this table, and takes secount of the spacing of the frames, the height of the freeboard deck abova the lowest tier of beams and the tumber of rows of stanchione.
the ship. From this example it will be readily seen that vessels classed with" the British Corporation in the fatare are likely to have framing that is especially suitable, aines all important factors affecting the strength
