GENERAL NEWS.

Slam Red Cross.

The total revenue of the Red Cross Society of Siam for the past year (B. E. 2459) was Ticale 351,150, including Tüs. 171,208 given for special buildings. The amount spent on baildings in the year was Tos. 128,562, and there was a credit balines at the end of the year of Tea. 134:374. In view of the important work the Society is now carrying on, it is hoped it will meet with the mine steady and generona support in the current fear.

German Arms in Hankow. Hanko, 25:0 April.-The special office of investigations at Baakow has been examining the arme, etc., in the stock of the German firme at Hankow and 40 cases fall of army supplies and ammunition bave been examined at the German firms of Diederich- sen and Co., Arnhold Karberg and Co., Buchheister and Co., and Carlowitz and Co., and they have been stored at the office of the Commissioner of Defence of Hakow from the evening of the 18 h inst.

Gilbert Reld Under Examluation.

Peking, April 27.-Dr. Gilbert Reid yesterday appeared before the American Consul-General at. Tien an for his preliminary ex- amination. The proceedings

were brief and purely formal. The acoused pleaded not guilty and was remanded on bail of G $2,500||

the pending his trisl before Jadge of the United States Court of China. It is uncertain whether the trial will be held in Shanghai or whether the judge will come up to Tientsin. The article on which the charge is based appeared in the Peking Poat on the 7ib.

Daylight Saving In Australia.. The system nader which the -clocks in Australia were put for. ward one hour during the sum. mer months came to an end at midnight on March 24th, and thereafter, ibroughout the winter, the clocks will register the true time, instead of being one hoor fast. The system will be revived on the last Sunday in September, unless the Act of Parliament is repealed in the meantime. The system was adopted under an Act of the Federal Parliament, and latterly, more especially in the country districte, it has met with such strong opposition that Par lismens may decide to repes! the Act,
