'Harvard Professor's Death.

Cambridge, Mass., February 13.-Dr. Horatio Bevens White, professor emeritus of the dëpart- ment of German at Elar ward university, was found dead in his chair here yesterday, having passed away as a result of a hears -attack. D. White was born in 1852 and entered the fscnity of Cornell University in 1878. Bo has been a member of the Harvard faculty since 19.2.

Milliary Enthusiasm in Lisbon,

Lisbon, Jan 3-At to-day's opening of Congress there was a great display of troops and much. enthusiasm. Sɔldiers lined the route from the palace of the Parliamentary Building, and there was a parade, attended by enorm.us numbers of spectators. The School of Oriental Studies.

London January 10.-The pre- liminary announcement respect. ing the opening of the School for Oriental Studies shows tha" work ie to commence on 18.b inst.
