London, February 12,
THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1617.
An Italian wireless semi-oficial announcement states that the Austrians recently repeatedly attacked, endeavouring toeject the Italians from their advanced positions east of Gorizia, which are favourable for an Italian offensive. Their attack on the night of February 10 and on the following day was made with great effectives and the whole of their artillery, thinking that the defenders would be annihilated in the bombardment. The infantry assaulted and desperate fighting ensued.
In the counter-attacks the Italians re-occupied the cap- tured positions and the Italian forts at the end of the action were intact.
The position is unchanged except that a few advanced trench elements have been occupied by the Austrians. Kun- dreds of the latter were left dead on the field.
