Coal Scarcity in Korea.

A serious scarcity of coal in reported from Korea. Formerly the greater portion of the demand for coal there was'met by Fasbou coal, followed by Kyushu. col., fAfter the outbreak of the war the supply of Kyushu coal to Korea was reduced owing to the increased demand in Japan pro- per, and Faebun coal 100k ice place. Since the end of last year. the supply of Kymhn coal has practically stopped, while the increased demand for Fasbun and other coal in Chios "for export to the South Seas and Australia ban had the effect of further reducing shipments to Korea,

Peking, Jan. 3.-The Ministry of Communications has introduc- ed new regulations in order to reduce the number of free passes on the various railways, but these regulations sro opposed by General Chang Fen and General Ni Shih-chung, who contend that they cause grest inconvenience to themselves and their troops and insist that passes bearing their signatures shall be still valid. The provision allowing

different classes of passes for various ranks of railway officers bas also caused dissatisfaction, the latter contending that all cfficers are entitled to travel by the same clues,
