The Late Captain H. M. Jones. V. C.

Captain Henry Michael Jones. V.0., late of the 7th__ Royal Familiers, the King's Dragoon Guards, and His Majesty's Diplomatic Service, died at East- bourne on 18th inst., aged 85. He was the oldest surviving, wesrer of the Victoria Cross, which was awarded to him for bravery in the Orimean War on Jane 7, 1855. He was wounded dangerously at the sesalt on the Redan. He entered the Consular Service in 1858, and became Minister Bo kident in Bangkok in 1880, This post he held for five years, when he went to South America, and retired in 1888. Captain Jones was the youngest of six brothers, of whom five were all, antecedent- ly to the Crimean War, killed in sation. He himself carried the Queen's Colours of the Royal Fusiliers at the Alma, where he was shot through the jambone, and he was known as "Alma Joner.
