The argument appears to be that because Indist soldiers had fought gallantly they must be handed over to a Government controlled by lawyers, which the martial races of India would most defert.

Lord Sydenham points out that since the transfer of the Gorera- ment of India to the Orawa, problems of Indian administration bad bean visked only from the standpoint of the intereste and advance- ment towards nationhod of the heterogenous millions committed to our obsige.

He concludes by uying that all lovera of India mast hope that. sober refletion will suggest to the signatories of the memoris! that they are anticipating by many years what șản be given if the country is to be preserved from anarchy ; and says that melf-govern- ment does not mean government by themselves and the section of

A Difficult rask.,

December 7, 6.25 1.0, Yesterday's developments prove the immense difficulty of re-creating the Coalition:

Mr. Bonar Law's failure is regeeded sa definitely showing that Mr. Asquith and his Liberal colleagues refuse to join the new Ministry, and are resolved to form an Opposition.

It is believed that many Unionist ex-members of the Cabinet will continue in office, though doubts are expressed regarding Mr. Chamberlain,

Some anticipate that Mr. Lloyd George, will break away from the conventionalitas and make a bold experiment in the art of Government. He a'credited with the intention of bringing in Lord Milner and Lord Boading, and possibly Sir P. E. Smith and Mr. Churchill. Ets hardest task is to secure the good will of the Labour members. It is stated that Mr. Henderson does not object to serve provided, the Labour Party authorises it. There are already indications that the Labourites are divided. Despite the party's allogi anos to Mr. Asquith there is a growing minority which bes loves that time Asquith Goremment lacked power to make a quick decision, while all Labour memboin an “impressed" *grifh the necessity of the vigorous prosecution of thị var.

Mr, Fenwick ALF., interviewed, said the feeling in the North Zap of England was such that a, Gorpromeni, mint, Mr. Asquith
