Even in Amerios the fact is not generally appreciated that the rabber industry is more highly developed in that country than in any other nation of the world. And the leaders in the American industry" are confident that the ending of the war and the free play of world commerce will be powerful factors, in greatly ex- panding the use of rubber. It is on the expectation of huge supplies of cheap rubber and manifold now uses for rubber products that rubber merchants are in consider able part basing their confident expcotations for the future of the business.

It is estimated that in 1917 allowing men to interfere with Europe native rubber will have declined their gas fittings unless such men to a yield of 34,500 tons, while produce certificates

of recent plantation rabber will have ex. date. of employment by the pruded to 147,000 tons. By 1922 Company. experts estimate the world will bs producing 200,000 tone of cultivat- ed rabber and bat 30,000 tons of native. Now that production of rabber is on a sand basis and yield can be so carefully sp- proximated, it is considered in evitable that lower prices will lead to new uses for rabber.

Ranches and open ranges the world over have been converted

into farms. The number of cattle is decreasing and leather for ehoea and belting will, it is believed, be more and me sup- plied by rubber. Illustrations of these changes are already to head. One company bas produced a composition sole leather which it claims outwears sole leather and is superior in many respects, Rubber billing is steadily sup- planting the

mora expensive leather belting. These are two samples. This list ccald eren now be expanded, and good judges believe that the next few years will see some starling innovations.
