BRITISH LOAN OVER-SUBSCRIBED.
"[Benter's Service to The Telegraph."]-
August 28, 12.05 p.m. Reuter's correspondent at New York says the new Bri tish loan of fifty millions was oversubscribed in forty-eight hours. The lists close to-day instead of Monday.
THE INCREASED PRICE OF COTTON.
August 26, 12.05 p.m.
Commenting on the rise of cotton the "Times” sayi there is little doubt that she United States erop will be sfall; but in some quarters the last official report is re- garded as unduly pessimistic, and moreover the market in America is under. "bull" control.
RUSSIANS DEFEAT TURKISH PLANS.
august 26, 12 20 p.m.
Reuter's correspondeat at Petrograd saya military ex peria point out that the re-capture of Mush puts the Rus- sians on the flank of the Turkish force at Bitlis, news of the re-occupation of which is confidently awaited. The victory of General Rayam in the direction of Mosul, on August 24, kicks on the head the Turkish plans around Lake huis, while in the Bamadan direction the Turks are in no better case, and the enemy advance in Persia 18 no longer regarded as practicable. All Turkish movements are paralysed, notably the grandiose scheme of taking Erzerum, notwithstanding the employment of availabin reinforcemente.
THE CONSCRIPTION QUESTION IN AUSTRALIA.
August 27, 12.10 p.m. Reuter's correspondent at Melbourne reports that after
■ Cabinet meeting Mr. Hugbes stated that a decision had been reached regarding conscription, but he declined-to- say any more. It was noticed that the Ministers known to favour conscription looked pleased. The political parties are now considering the matter.

The facts of the case, as told last Monday, were that the com- plainant and defendant agreed to be partners in a Lusiness and and certain money was de posited with the International Bank, it being agreed that the money could only be drawn oat con the signature of the defendant and the obopi of the complainant. The com- plainant went away to Canton, and when he came back he found that the money was gons. He then charged the defendant with forging his chop and to getting the money.
Evidence was given to-day by |s repressplative of the Biok, who said that there was no such jɔint account by the two men.
Mr. Dennys again appeared for the defence, and the case was farther adjourned.
